INT-9128R-SW

Non-Blocking Matrix Switch Family

Overview

The INT-9128R-SW is a very large-scale digital matrix switch family of products for signals with rates ranging from DC to 667 Mbps, and with a total switching fabric bandwidth of over 170 Gbps. Its totally non-blocking and fully buffered switch architecture permits the user to arbitrarily connect any input to any one or more outputs. Family members include models with 16, 32, 64 and 128 inputs and outputs. This combination of large-scale switching and high bandwidth coupled with the wide variety of signal types described below make the INT-9128R-SW family ideal for telecommunications, telemetry, ATE, laboratory, military and industrial applications. Its large-scale, modularity, and versatility enhance the user's ability to "future-proof" designs of today for tomorrow's requirements. Furthermore, switches beyond 128 x 128 may be configured using multiple INT-9128-SW units.

The family accommodates all synchronous, asynchronous or burst data and clock formats, making possible the switching of virtually any type of bit serial data stream from DC to 667 Mbps. Signals may be paired together to accommodate NRZ data and clock, or may be switched independently for signals with embedded timing (T1/E1, T3/E3, asynchronous, etc.). Also multiple signals may be grouped together to permit switching of parallel busses such as the OpenLDI  LVDS flat panel display interface.

Customized rear connector panels are routinely fabricated to individual customer requirements to simplify installation and cabling and to achieve direct plug to plug compatibility with customer equipments. These may be either signal based, where there are separate sets of input only and output only connectors, or port based, where each connector has both input and output signals and are switched as a full duplex connection.

Internal to the unit each block of 16 connectors is interfaced into the switch matrix by a plug-in signal converter card. The user may customize a switch for a specific application by selecting converter cards, connectors and pin assignments to match their requirements. RS422, RS423, RS485, RS232, TTL, ECL, PECL, LVDS, LVPECL, DS1, T1, T3, E1, E3, E4 and STM-1 converter cards are available today, and additional types are under development. A re-clocking option is also available for clocked high speed signals to minimize output jitter and skew.

Control and status is provided via the optional front panel or via a rear panel 9-pin ‘D’ connector serial port conforming to EIA standard RS-232C. The operational configuration is maintained in non-volatile memory at all times and is restored when power is applied. The units are typically 4U (7") high standard 19" rack mounted enclosure requiring 150 Watts of 120/230 VAC 50/60 Hertz power. The size may vary depending on the customer's choice of rear panel connectors and configuration.
